NEWS
--Tomorrow is the 11th Day of Caring in Little Falls through Little Falls Community High School. There are 184 residences that will have some outdoor work (cleaning leaves, picking up sticks, washing windows) done. Becky Abbott on KLTF yesterday said that they cannot use power tools, cannot be on ladders or use any motorized items during their work at the homes tomorrow. Homeowners are allowed to offer or leave treats if they so desire to do so. The hundreds of students and nearly 40 community groups will organize teams and head out just after 8am Wednesday to residences in Little Falls, Randall, Flensburg and Sobieski. You MUST have someone at the residence during 8am-12pm for their visit otherwise they cannot work outside the home unless someone is home. A reminder to motorists to be advised around Little Falls and Randall between 8:30am-11:30am that some will walking from house to house and to be advised to watch for those out tomorrow morning. Let's make this another safe and successful Day of Caring this year. Bags of leaves and others items may be left in the yard but will be picked up by the city of Little Falls by Saturday during their citywide leaf and brush pickup day. Questions can be directed to the school at 616-2200.

--Little Falls Community High School Principal Tim Bjorge also stated yesterday on KLTF that this year graduation for the class of 2024 will be on Friday, May 24th at 7pm at the high school. The school has decided to move away from the Sunday afternoon graduations this year so again graduation will be May 24th at 7pm in Little Falls.

--Camp Ripley's Tony Housey when one in attendance last week as the US Postal Service Building in Winsted, Minnesota was renamed in honor of Chief Warrant Officer James Rogers Jr. of the Minnesota National Guard. Legislation to honor these fallen Guardsmen was authored by Representatives 7th District Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach, District 6 Congressman Tom Emmer and then introduced to the Senate by Minnesota Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith before being signed by the President. Already the Avon Post Office is renamed in honor of Army National Guard Warrant Officer Candidate Kort M. Plantenberg; the Perham Post Office renamed in honor after Army National Guard Chief Warrant Officer Charles P. Nord; and the Winsted Post Office renamed in honor of Chief Warrant Officer James A. Rogers Jr. from this legislation. These three Minnesota National Guardsmen were tragically killed on December 5, 2019 when their UH-60L Black Hawk helicopter experienced engine failure during flight. Many members of the National Guard around the state including Camp Ripley was on hand. Housey has posted pictures of the event on the Camp Ripley Facebook page.

--Republican delegates in Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District failed to endorse a candidate Saturday. Michelle Fischbach is the incumbent in the western Minnesota district. One of her challengers was Steve Boyd, a politician who describes himself as a “grassroots America First conservative.” After three rounds of voting, Fischbach failed to obtain 60% of the vote necessary to earn the party endorsement, forcing a stalemate. The endorsement process ended after a motion to suspend the rules was passed. The deadlock means Republican voters will decide the nominee in an August primary.

--Angie Peterson spoke on KLTF to invite everyone to Randall Wednesday through Friday for their garage sale days. Area businesses will have items going on those days also to come and see.

--The National Weather Service is forecasting the possibility for severe weather in parts of Minnesota this afternoon and tonight. --A St. Cloud woman was hurt in a crash east of Foley. The Minnesota State Patrol says the incident happened Sunday at about 12:30pm on Highway 23. Both vehicles were going east on the highway when they collided. Thirty-four-year-old Nicole Mills of St. Cloud was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Seventy-two-year-old Kathleen Brinkman of Oak Park was not hurt.

--A Monday morning crash in Waite Park sent two passengers to the hospital. The Minnesota State Patrol says officers responded to the crash at 9:11 Monday morning on Highway 15 and 2nd Street South in Waite Park. Officers believe a car, driven by 26-year-old Shardi Hafso of St. Cloud was turning into the Southbound lane of Highway 15 while a pickup, driven by 18-year-old Michael Newell of St. Cloud was southbound on Highway 15. Neither driver was injured in the crash, but two passengers in the car, 18-year-old Emilee Cuny and 24-year-old Barlin Noor, both of St. Cloud, were taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

--As April showers give way to May flowers, utility companies remind the public to call before they dig. Calling 811 is required before starting a garden, installing a fence, mailbox, deck or any other project that requires digging. When calling or making a notification online, there will be a few questions to answer about the location and details of the project. When the information is processed, directions will be given for how much time utilities have to respond and how to determine if all utilities have been contacted. Companies will then send out locators to mark the approximate location of buried lines with paint or flags so they can be avoided.
