NEWS
–Today is Township Election Day for 22 of the 30 Townships in Morrison County. Most Townships are holding elections for supervisor and clerk. Some have more than one depending on supervisor terms. Most of the townships have special hours for their polls to be open today but in all cases the polls close at 8:00pm at their sites.

–The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office responded Saturday to a snowmobile accident on Peavy Lake in Richardson Township. Around 10:45am officers responded to Peavy Lake and found that 54-year-old Richard Ringold of Onamia had drove his snowmobile into an ice heave and was thrown from the snowmobile. Ringold sustained minor injuries and was treated at the Onamia hospital.

–Stearns County responded to Cedar Island Lake west of Cold Spring Saturday around 4:15pm to a report of an ATV going through the ice. The driver, 43-year-old Brian Will of Sartell was pulling two other adults and 4 children in a trailer when he came to a large crack in the ice and was unable to stop the ATV and went into the water. All parties involved were able to get out of the water and onto the island off of the lake where they were helped to shore by firefighters and the rescue team. No one was injured but the Sheriff’s Office is reminding others that with the warm temperatures to use extreme caution when venturing out on any area lakes.

–Cass County authorities battled a structure fire Friday on Birch Lake Lane in Hackensack. The fire chief said no one was at home at the time and the structure was completely destroyed by the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

–A St. Cloud man was taken to Stearns County Jail after a woman was assaulted with a knife. Deputies were sent to 222nd Street East in Lynden Township just before 11:00pm Sunday. The caller told dispatchers that a man had stabbed a 36-year-old woman with a knife. When deputies arrived they had found the unidentified woman with a small stab wound on her left arm. She declined medical attention at the scene. Deputies arrested 36-year old Luke John Emslander in connection with the stabbing. Deputies also learned that Emslander had allegedly pointed a BB gun at the female in the basement of the home. Emslander is being held on suspicion of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, terroristic threats with a replica handgun and fifth-degree domestic assault.

–Seven people have been displaced after a vehicle crashed into an apartment building. The St. Cloud fire department was called to 14th Street South around 3:15pm Sunday after a car ran into the building. The driver of the vehicle and the occupants of the apartment were not hurt during the crash. The American Red Cross is assisting the two adults and five children who were displaced by the crash.

–The Sauk Rapids police department is asking for the public’s help in identifying two men who held up a Shell gas station Saturday night. Officers were sent to the gas station at 400 Benton Drive. Two men entered the gas station and demanded a clerk turn over all of the money in the store. One of the men reportedly displayed a handgun. The men took an undisclosed amount of money from the register and then left.

–Little Falls School Superintendent Stephen Jones will host a referendum public meeting tonight at 7:00pm at the Little Falls community middle school inside the commons. The district has a two question bond referendum Tuesday, May 10th.

–Around 5:45pm on Friday the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a one vehicle rollover with injuries on 153rd Street in Leigh Township, near Hillman. 29-year old Donald Nsom of Andover was eastbound on 153rd Street when he lost control on the icy roadway. The vehicle ran off the road to the north before overturning. Nsom was transported by ambulance to the Onamia Hospital with unknown injuries.

–Two men tackled a burglary suspect and took off his shoes to keep him from escaping before police arrived Thursday morning in Crosby. 40-year old Joseph William Grant of Roseville was arrested by Crosby police after Crow Wing County dispatchers received a report of a burglary in progress at Ya Betcha Bar and Grill. Grant appeared Friday in Crow Wing County District Court and was charged with felony first-degree burglary in an occupied dwelling, felony second-degree burglary of a building in possession of a tool and felony theft.

–On Monday legislation for the 2016 Paid Family and Medical Leave Act was unveiled. This legislation would create an insurance program to provide all Minnesota workers with a portion of their pay for up to 12 weeks for pregnancy and medical issues and 12 weeks for bonding with a new child or caring for a seriously-ill family member. Ninety-percent of individuals receiving long term care in their communities rely on unpaid care from family members. The United States is the only advanced economy that doesn’t guarantee paid maternity leave, and 70 other countries require paid paternity leave. Only 13% of employees in the U.S. have access to full pay through their employers while on FMLA qualifying leaves. The Minnesota legislature session begins today at noon.

COL BB= Gophers open the Big 10 Tournament as the #13 seed against Illinois Wednesday 3pm on AM960 KLTF. Gophers will need to win 5 games to win the tournament for any NCAA bid.
NFL= Two time Super Bowl winning quarterback Peyton Manning announced Monday that he is retiring from the NFL after 18 seasons. Manning won the Super Bowl last month with Denver and also has one Super Bowl championship with his days in Indianapolis.
