NEWS
–The Little Falls City Council met Monday night. At the meeting the Little Falls city council unanimously approved the new sign ordinance with two amendments from what was presented in the council packet. The first amendment was to add a definition of property . Property was defined as any lot or parcel of land which has been legally created and has been assigned a seperate parcel identification number. The second amendment was for a change in administration for the permit application from one calendar year to any 12 month period. The ordinance will go into effect seven days after publishing in the Morrison County Record.

–Two people were injured in a collision early Sunday after one driver drove the wrong way on U.S. Highway 10 north of Royalton. 25-year old Justin Hollermann of Cold Spring was arrested after the incident and alcohol was detected in his system. Hollermann struck another vehicle near 68th Street while driving north in the southbound lane of Highway 10 at about 1:00am Sunday. The driver of the second vehicle, 20-year old Allisa Bontjes of Randall was injured after her vehicle rolled, landing upside down in the west ditch. Hollermann’s vehicle remained on the road. Hollermann was arrested after the collision, on suspicion of criminal vehicular operation. Both drivers was transported to St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls with non life threatening injuries. They were treated and released. Hollermann was taken to the Morrison County Jail.

–Police arrested a 19-year-old man after a church in south St. Cloud was vandalized. Holy Myrrh-bearers Orthodox Church had a glass door smashed and a ground-level window kicked in early Friday. Police were called to the church at about 4:30am on a report of a man who was possibly having mental health problems. When police arrived, the church already had been damaged. Police arrested 19-year old Michael Christopher Garner. He was drunk and was making statements about wanting to harm himself. Police took Garner to St. Cloud Hospital, then to Stearns County Jail, where he is being held for investigation of underage consumption and property damage.

–Two men are in Stearns County Jail and could face robbery charges after a man had property taken from him late Saturday in the 1100 block of Fourth Avenue South. The 21-year-old victim was approached by two men who demanded property from him. The men took the victim’s belt, phone and cash. The suspects didn’t show any weapons, and the victim was not injured. Investigators were able to identify the suspects, and early Sunday arrested 18-year old Tyler Scott DeLuca and 19-year old Sheneil Trevez Smith. Both were taken to Stearns County Jail for investigation of simple robbery.

–A St. Cloud man was arrested Sunday morning after he threatened a person with a hunting knife. The 50-year-old victim told police that 28-year old Ryan Robert Weber threatened him and took property from him at about 11:40am in the 400 block of 16th Avenue North in St. Cloud. Police couldn’t verify that Weber took any property, but they did arrest him later on Sunday for investigation of second-degree assault. He remains in Stearns County Jail pending charges.

–An apartment fire late Sunday caused about $6,000 damage at Empire Apartments, 54 Fourth Avenue North St. Cloud. The person who lived in the apartment left the apartment with the stove on. Items on the stove caught fire and burned the cabinetry above the stove. Two sprinkler heads activated and put the fire out. No injuries.

–Six men have applied to become the new mayor of Brainerd. Those who applied to fill the vacancy are Kevin Goedker, Chad McCoy, Ed Menk, Don Samuelson, Kevin Stumpf and Kevin Stunek. Mayor James Wallin’s sudden passing on Sept. 26 meant the city of Brainerd would have to adopt a process to fill the vacancy left by his death. The Brainerd City Council will appoint a mayor to serve until the general election in November of 2016, when a mayor will be elected to serve the remaining two years of Wallin’s four-year term. Council President Gary Scheeler has been and will continue to serve as acting mayor until an appointment is made. The deadline to submit applications for the position was November 6th. Interviews with the candidates are scheduled for November 30th. Brainerd hopes to officially fill the appointment at the city council meeting December 7th.

–People got a chance to see the Stanley Cup Sunday at the Hockey House in Brainerd. The cup was brought for a tour of the area by Glenn “Chico” Resch, who was the goaltender for the New York Islanders when they won the Stanley Cup championship in 1980. The tradition of each Stanley Cup winning player spending a day with the trophy did not begin until 1994 so that is why Resch had to wait so long. The Stanley Cup is awarded each year to the NHL champions.

–Assistant Majority Leader Representative Ron Kresha, R-Little Falls, issued a statement in support of a letter sent by House Speaker Kurt Daudt, R-Crown, calling on Governor Mark Dayton to urge President Obama to suspend relocation efforts for Syrian refugees until the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has completed a full review of security and screening procedures for refugees entering the country.

–The Pequot Lakes Chamber and a house built by students on the Pequot Lakes High School’s property were burglarized this past weekend. Two males – ages 24 and 18 – and two juvenile males were involved in the burglaries. The adult males were arrested for fourth-degree burglary, damage to property, possession of drug paraphernalia and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Long form charges may be filed against the juveniles. The chamber was burglarized Saturday night and the high school was Sunday night. Police received a call at 7:19pm Sunday of kids going into a house the trades class students built on the high school property. Officers arrived and found the four males. Minor damage was done to the house and the chamber. Lakes Latte also was burglarized. It appears all three incidents are related. However, the investigation continues.
