--Morgan Pohlkamp found the Pierz Oktoberfest medallion. Morgan was searching with her grandma Eileen and friends Abbey and Brayden Foust, when she located the specially marked Oktoberfest medallion. The medallion was located north of the practice football field for the Pierz Pioneers, behind Pierz Healy High School. It was in the shot put area inside a Big League Chew wrapper. They turned in the medallion around 1:00pm Tuesday and will receive the prize of $500 in Pierz Bucks.

--A biological mother is charged in Missouri with killing her 16-year-old daughter, after her remains were found on the rural site where her mother and boyfriend lived. Ozark County prosecutors filed charges of first degree murder and other counts against Rebecca Ruud in the death of Savannah Leckie, who was reported missing in July. A search warrant affidavit says Ruud lived with a Twin Cities family who adopted her. Savannah could not get along with the adopted mother's new boyfriend, so the girl went to Missouri to live with her biological mom for eleven months before she went missing. Reports say Ruud and Robert Peat, Junior got married August fourth when the remains of Ruud's daughter were first discovered.

--The Morrison County Sheriff's Office reported they arrested a 44-year old man last Wednesday at the intersection of 175th Avenue and 183rd Street for driving while intoxicated, arrested a 36-year old woman August 13th on Ginger and Grouse Road for DWI and refusal of a blood alcohol test, arrested a 63-year old on Sixth Street Southwest for obstructing the legal process, a 35-year old August 13th for assault on Highway 25 in Pierz, a 24-year old man August 12th for assault of a peace officer and domestic assault on 113th Street in Pierz, in the same incident two others were arrested for obstucting the legal process. Deputies also arrested a 32-year old August 11th on 183rd Street for DWI. Sheriffs Deputies responded to theft reports of a trailer August 14th on Fish Trap Lake in Cushing, burgarly reports in Cushing, Foley and Little Falls reported August 13th and 14th.

--Two people were hurt in a rear end crash in Foley. The Minnesota State Patrol says it happened at about 5:45pm Monday on eastbound Highway 23, at 11th Avenue. A pickup driven by 29-year old Amy Robak-Bruce of Foley was stopped waiting to make a left turn from Highway 23 onto 11th Avenue when her vehicle was hit from behind by a car driven by 19-year old Brandon Obermoller of Princeton. Robak-Bruce was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A passenger in the car, 39-year old Shawnee Brinwall of Foreston, was also taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

--Authorities were called to a campsite inside Brainerd International Raceway early Saturday morning after a man was found dead. Deputies were dispatched about 2:30am Saturday to BIR to investigate the death where deputies located an unresponsive male. Resuscitation was attempted, but unsuccessful. It was determined the man died by suicide. The man's body was transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office. The raceway hosted the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals over the weekend.

--The 64th Princess Kay of the Milky way will be crowned tonight. Princess Kay is crowned the night before the Minnesota State Fair begins. 19-year old Gina Holdvogt of Freeport representing Stearns County and 18-year old Rebecca Schubert of Rice representing Benton County are among the 12 finalists. Tomorrow Princess Kay will have her likeness carved into a block of butter. Each of the other finalists will have their likeness carved into a block of butter throughout the state fair. The finalists were selected based on their passion for dairy and their communication skills.

--State, county and federal agencies are investigating after a mailed envelope opened by a Seventh Judicial District employee on Tuesday morning was found to contain a white powder as well as a letter. Initial tests did not find biologic or toxic substances in the powder, and authorities believe it might be corn starch. The case is being investigated as a potential violation of a state law regarding Real and Simulated Weapons of Mass Destruction.

--A St. Cloud man has been sentenced to two years and three months in prison after he confronted another man with a hatchet because he was black. 51-year old Daniel Volkers had pleaded guilty in June to a felony count of 2nd Degree Assault With a Dangerous Weapon-Motivated by Bias. Volkers confronted a black man last March who was sitting in his car in a southeast St. Cloud parking lot. The 45-year old victim told police he opened his car door and asked Volkers what he wanted. Volkers is accused of threatening the man and swinging the hatchet at the victim twice. The victim was able to close and lock his car door without being hit. Police used a search warrant to enter the apartment unit. Volkers was found hiding in the pantry and a hatchet was recovered inside the residence. With credit for time served, Volkers will serve just under two years in prison. As part of the plea agreement, three other charges were dismissed.

--Three finalists have been chosen to fill the open Sartell-St. Stephen School Board seat. During Monday’s board meeting, the school board nominated Amanda Byrd, Taryn Gentile and Jeremy Snoberger out of the seven candidates who applied. All three will now move on to the interview stage which is scheduled for next Tuesday. Whoever is picked from the remaining three candidates will serve out the term starting 30 days later. The position became available when former school board chair Michelle Meyer, announced her resignation from the board in June. Meyer’s term ends November 2018.
