NEWS
--Morrison County Highway 12 (Cable Road) is scheduled to close Friday in order to replace the Bridge over the Swan River. Motorists using County State Aid Highway 12 between Sobieski and Swanville will encounter a detour as the Bridge over the Swan River is scheduled to be replaced. Motorists should plan their own alternative routes or plan additional time for travel in order to follow the signed detour. The closure is necessary in order to replace the existing structure which has deteriorated and reached the end of its service life. The project is expected to take three weeks depending on weather and site conditions.

--The Morrison County Sheriff ‘s Office reported a two vehicle accident with injuries just after 2:00pm on Monday on Highway 10, approximately one mile south of Motley. 23-year old Thomas Holker of Motley was traveling south on Highway 10. 20-year old Nicole Lahr of Cushing was also traveling south on Highway 10, behind Holker’s vehicle. Holker started to make a right turn into a driveway when Lahr’s vehicle struck the back of his vehicle. Nicole Lahr was transported to Staples Hospital with minor injuries. Thomas Holker’s passenger, 58-year old Gerald Holker was also transported to Staples Hospital with minor injuries.

--The Stearns County Sheriffs' Office stated a Cold Spring man involved in an accident near Rockville Monday night has died. Oracio Guzman died as a result of the injuries he received in this crash. Around 7:30pm Monday, Stearns County Sheriff's deputies and Rockville Fire and Rescue responded to a single vehicle roll over crash at the intersection of 234th Street and Broadway Street West in the city of Rockville. The driver and only occupant, 37-year old Oracio Guzman of Cold Spring, was ejected and found approximately 50 feet from the car. Guzman suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital where he died early Tuesday. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

--A 19-year old Pequot Lakes woman was seriously injured after she jumped from the Washington Street Bridge into the Mississippi River this past weekend. The Brainerd Police Department said around 9:00pm Saturday they responded to the Washington Street Bridge over the Mississippi River to investigate a report that a person just went over the bridge railing and jumped from the bridge. Arriving officers learned from witnesses a despondent woman went onto the bridge, crossed over the railing and jumped from the bridge into the river. Officers descended the river bank and could hear the woman in the river calling for help. The woman was located downstream near the Laurel Street Bridge. She was assisted to shore there. Due to the injuries she suffered and the nature of the river bank at that location, the Brainerd Fire Department utilized their inflatable boat to transport her to the Kiwanis Park area to get her to an ambulance. The woman was taken to an area hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries. The woman's name was not released.

--A 32-year old Brainerd woman was injured after she was struck by a vehicle last Friday around 3:25pm on the 2100 block of Oak Street in Brainerd. The Brainerd Police Department reported Jessica Haataja, who was not in the crosswalk was struck was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. The driver of the vehicle was not hurt nor cited.

--After 9 years of searching for Peter Achermann of rural Leader the family is holding a funeral for him Saturday. Peter Achermann was last seen on July 24th, 2009 in Staples running errands. His vehicle was found the next day east of Leader but there were no signs of Achermann. Despite searches and a substantial reward, no trace was ever found. His family will have his funeral at St. Michael Catholic Church in Motley Saturday morning at 11:00am with a celebration of his life at the family farm in Leader. Anyone with information, tips or leads on Achermann's whereabouts is asked to contact the sheriff's office at 800-450-2677. The Cass County Sheriff's Office said the case is ongoing, though the family declared him dead back in 2013.

--A 28-year old Sauk Rapids woman faces charges on suspicion of threatening a group home staffer with a steak knife Sunday night. Tiffany Kay Schmit was charged with one felony count of second degree assault and one felony count of threats of violence. Schmit's next court appearance is scheduled for September 20th.

--The Brainerd City Council is giving backers two years (August 6th, 2020) to raise funds for the historic water tower—both residents and nonprofits of Brainerd. If the funds can not be reached to help replace the stucco and work to the old water tower it will have to be destroyed which would cost a lot less than the repairs.

--Stearns County Sheriff's Office will be having a community notification meeting Aug. 15 about a predatory offender moving into the area. According to a press release from the sheriff's office, the meeting is about 30-year-old Thomas Steven Snook who is being released from confinement August 16th. The meeting will begin at 6:00pm August 15th at Maine Prairie Township Hall in Kimball. Snook is a level three risk and "will be on intensive supervised release" with the Minnesota Department of Corrections. According to a notification of release document, Snook "engaged in sexual contact with a 15-year old female victim," and was convicted. He served his sentence.

--The Morrison County officially opens tomorrow but there are a few events tonight including Motocross at the Grandstand at 7pm. The fair opens with a full day of events tomorrow including Military Day and KLTF Party Line at 10am. Get details at fallsradio.com.
