--The Diocese of St. Cloud on Monday was served with several dozen civil lawsuits alleging sexual abuse against children by former monks and priests who were assigned positions within the diocese. The filings came just ahead of Wednesday's deadline to file lawsuits under the Child Victims Act, which provided a three-year window in which victims could sue for decades-old sexual abuse. Those claims previously would have been dismissed because of statute of limitations violations. The lawsuits served Monday on the diocese involve priests and monks from multiple religious orders and cover conduct that happened 30 years or more ago. St. Cloud Bishop Donald Kettler said Monday in a statement that the diocese is reviewing the claims and that he wants to resolve them "in a fair and just manner while also allowing for the continuation of the work of the Church in our communities." He encouraged anyone who has suffered sexual abuse by a member of the clergy to come forward, regardless of when the abuse happened.

--A one-vehicle rollover Monday night sent a 24-year-old Sauk Centre man to the hospital with non life threatening injuries and resulted in a careless driving citation. Jose Ojeda-Lopes was driving west on Stearns County Road 186 at about 7:45pm Monday as another driver 17-year old Bradley Holmquist, of Long Prairie, told officers Ojeda-Lopes' vehicle crossed into the oncoming traffic lane on a curve, over-corrected and rolled in the south ditch. Ojeda-Lopes was transported to Sauk Centre Hospital. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor. Law enforcement officers cited Ojeda-Lopez for careless driving, driving after revocation and no proof of insurance.

--Residents will decide Thursday if the Melrose school district can tax and spend an additional $29 million. Supporters say students, staff and the community need the upgrades. Opponents think the request has unnecessary elements and would place too big a burden on landowners in the Stearns County district. Ballots will contain two questions. The first would fund $25 million in construction for a new eight-lane pool, four gym courts, classroom additions, a lobby area, restrooms, remodeling, parking improvements and other items. The second question is contingent on the first's passage. It will ask voters to approve $3 million for two gym courts and a walking track.

--A New York man faces charges after a handgun was fired in a St. Cloud parking ramp on Saturday. 31-year old Mychal White of Schenectady, New York, is facing felony charges for second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon in Stearns County District Court. The complaint said on-duty police officers heard gunshots at 2:11am Saturday coming from the Centre Square parking ramp in downtown St. Cloud. The officers saw four males run from the ramp, claiming someone had shot at them. The complaint said the victims pointed to a mini-van that was backing out of a parking spot. Officers approached the van and identified White as the driver. The complaint said officers saw a handgun in plain view and could detect alcohol coming from White's breath. The four victims identified White as the individual who fired off the handgun in the parking garage. Officers also located 25-caliber shells in the area where the shooting occurred in the parking garage. The victims told officers they were leaving the bar when White confronted them and pointed a handgun toward them. The victims then told officers White fired shots into the ground towards them. During a search of the van, officers located a 25 caliber handgun that is believed to match the shell casings found in the garage. White is in the Stearns County Jail on a $400,000 bond.
