In 1865, the Rev. Francis Xavier Pierz started ministering to the community of Rich Prairie. Rich Prairie would eventually be renamed Pierz in the reverend’s honor. In keeping with tradition, the parish of St. Joseph’s in Pierz is celebrating with a 150th anniversary outdoor Mass at 4:30pm this Saturday. Bishop Donald Kettler will officiate and all past parish priests that are able will concelebrate. Music for the Mass will be provided by a combination of the folk and adult choirs, singing a variety of appropriate songs for the occasion. There will be plenty of seating available with handicapped parking and seating area also provided. After Mass, outdoor entertainment will include old time music, food and beverages on the grounds for all to enjoy. Guests will also be able to take guided tours of the historic Catholic Church, covering some of the past special events making the parish what it is today. If the weather is not agreeable, Mass will be held inside the church with the celebration moving to the lower level of the church. All are invited to celebrate with parishioners of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz.
